Carrie Cox was elected at-large to the Henderson City Council in November 2022, Councilwoman Carrie Cox represents Ward 3 with a steadfast commitment to enhancing and preserving the quality of life in Nevada's second-largest city. She plays a crucial role in shaping policies and making thoughtful, impactful decisions that continue to make Henderson one of the best places to live in the nation.
Carrie’s priorities are public safety, crime prevention, creating a Henderson School District, a sustainable economic recovery, and transparency. She continues to implement her resident-first vision and will always encourage feedback from Henderson residents, because we are stronger together when we stand together.
A Personal Connection to Henderson
For 30 years, Carrie has proudly called Henderson her home. Carrie and her husband raised their family here, and several of their grandchildren are being raised right here in Henderson. Married to Matthew Cox, an Air Force veteran, they share a rich family life with seven children, daughters and sons-in-law, and 11 grandchildren. As the daughter of a Navy veteran, Carrie's values are deeply rooted in service and community. Carrie is a trusted, professional, businesswoman, and educator. Carrie seeks the input of residents, businesses, and the subject matter experts to inform her positions on the critical issues facing the residents of Henderson.
For Carrie, public service demands transparency. She is known throughout Henderson as a woman who cares deeply for our community and has the unique ability to find a win-win solution in almost all situations. Carrie is driven by her desire to improve our community and preserve our quality of life.
A Legacy of Service and Leadership
Carrie has dedicated her life to service and leadership. With 32 years of experience as an educator, including roles as a kindergarten teacher and reading interventionist at Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon, Carrie understands the importance of education. Her dedication extends beyond the classroom, having served on the Sheriff's Mental Health and Wellness Bureau, Henderson Blue Ribbon Commission on Educational Excellence and Youth Opportunity, and the Clark County Community Development Advisory Committee.
Councilwoman Carrie Cox currently serves on the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority, the CCSD Facilities Oversight Panel, as Chair of Lutheran Social Services of Nevada Board of Directors, and other organizations. She has also worked as a family law paralegal, advocating for children and families.
Public Safety
Councilwoman Cox stands firmly for public safety, supporting Henderson's dedicated police and fire departments. Public safety is the cornerstone of a thriving community. It is essential that we stand united with our police and fire departments, as they are integral to safeguarding our residents and ensuring a peaceful, secure environment. By supporting these brave men and women, we contribute to a robust safety infrastructure that protects and serves every corner of our community. Their dedication and commitment enable us to live, work, and play without fear, making our community a preferred place to call home. Together, let's continue to back our first responders in their critical mission to keep us safe.
Education
Carrie's advocacy for school choice and the establishment of a Henderson school district underscores her commitment to education. As a pro-business leader, Carrie actively promotes local businesses, recognizing their vital role in the community's prosperity. Strides in education have been made by becoming a charter school authorizer, working diligently to support our police department in bringing the crime rates down (the data is showing we are seeing positive movement in that regard) and improving transparency.
